What is a video to image converter?

Video to Image is a tool that saves one frame of a video as a JPG picture. You upload a clip and choose the first frame, the middle frame, the last frame, or the frame at a time you type, such as 0:12 or 1:05.5. The frame is taken from the video file itself, not from a screenshot of a player, so there are no buttons, progress bars or notifications in the picture. It runs in the cloud and costs one flat 20 credits per image.

How to use Video to Image in 3 steps

  1. Upload the video

Choose an MP4, MOV or WEBM file up to 200 MB and 10 minutes, from your gallery, camera roll or computer.

  2. Choose which frame to save

Pick First frame, Middle frame or Last frame, or choose At a time I choose and type the moment, such as 0:12. The time has to be inside the video's length.

  3. Convert the video to an image

Press Grab the frame. The frame is saved in My Videos as a JPG you can download, share or use in another tool.

What Video to Image does

Four ways to pick the frame

First frame, middle frame and last frame need no typing. At a time I choose opens a time box where you type the moment you want.

Type the moment in minutes and seconds

Write the time as minutes:seconds, like 0:12 or 2:40. Plain seconds such as 75 work too, and so do fractions like 1:05.5 when the moment is between two seconds.

A clean frame, not a screen capture

The image is pulled from the video file, so it has none of the player controls, captions bar, status bar or cursor that a phone or computer screenshot would catch.

Saved as a JPG

The frame comes back as a JPG, the format every phone, website, document and design app opens, and it's saved in My Videos next to your other results.

Runs in the cloud, works on a phone

Upload from your camera roll in Safari or Chrome. The video is read on our side, so a long clip doesn't have to be scrubbed frame by frame on a small screen.

Comparison

Why use Video to Image instead of taking a screenshot of the player?

A screenshot catches whatever is on your screen. Grabbing the frame from the file gives you only the picture.

What you can make with it

Make a thumbnail or cover image from your own footage

The best cover for a video is often a moment inside it: the reveal in a recipe Reel, the jump in a skate clip, the smile at the end of a vlog. Save that frame and use it as the thumbnail.

  • Find the moment in your player and note its time, for example 0:48.
  • Choose At a time I choose and type 0:48.
  • If the frame is slightly blurred by motion, try a few tenths earlier or later, like 0:47.6.
  • Add a title on top in your design app, or make it sharper first with Image Upscaler.

Get a still photo out of a video you filmed

You filmed instead of taking a photo, and the moment you wanted is in the clip: a child blowing out candles, a dog mid-leap, a finish line. Pull that one frame out as a picture.

  • Use the exact time of the moment rather than the middle frame, which may miss it.
  • Footage shot in good light gives the sharpest stills; fast motion in dim light blurs.
  • Run the JPG through Image Upscaler if you want to print it larger.

Grab the first or last frame for an edit

The first and last frames are useful as hold frames, title backgrounds or a starting image for another tool. No time typing is needed for these.

  • Choose Last frame to get the closing shot of a clip as a picture.
  • Use the frame as a starting image in Photo to Video to animate the scene further.
  • Cut the subject out of the frame with Background Remover for a cover or sticker.

Who it's for

YouTubers and short-form creators

Pull a strong moment from your own footage as a thumbnail or cover image instead of staging a separate photo.

Parents and families

Turn the best second of a birthday or holiday video into a picture for an album, a frame or a card.

Online sellers

Save a clean product still from a demo video you filmed, for a listing image or a post for your brand.

Teachers and writers

Take a frame from a recorded demo or lecture to put a clear picture of one step into a handout or article.

Tips for the best result

  • Pause your player on the moment you want and read the time from it before typing it in.
  • For fast action, try times a few tenths of a second apart, like 1:05.2 and 1:05.5, and keep the sharper one.
  • The middle frame is exactly halfway through the clip; it's a quick pick for a cover, not a way to find a specific moment.
  • Trim long recordings first only if you need the clip itself shortened; for one frame, just type the time.
  • A frame is only as sharp as the video it came from; upscale the JPG afterwards if you need it bigger.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a frame from a video as a picture?

Upload the video, choose First, Middle or Last frame or type a time like 0:12, and press Grab the frame. The frame is saved in My Videos as a JPG.

How do I get a picture from a video on my iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, upload the clip from your camera roll, pick the frame or type the time, and download the JPG from My Videos to save it to Photos.

What format is the image?

JPG. It opens on any phone or computer and can be uploaded to websites and apps as is.

How do I type the time?

As minutes:seconds, such as 0:12 or 2:40. Plain seconds like 75 and fractions like 1:05.5 work too, and the time must be inside the video's length.

Can I get several frames from one video?

Each job saves one frame. Run it again with another time for each extra frame you want; each job is 20 credits.

Does it work on long videos?

Yes, up to 10 minutes and 200 MB per upload, in MP4, MOV or WEBM.

How much does it cost to convert a video to an image?

20 credits per frame, whichever frame option you choose.

Why is my frame blurry?

The frame is as sharp as the video at that moment, so fast motion or low light can blur it. Try a time a few tenths of a second earlier or later.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Sign in with Google or email; each job costs credits from your balance, and the result is saved in My Videos.

What if a job fails?

If a job can't finish, the credits it used go back to your balance automatically.
