Ways to pay less
  • Price is per started minute, so trimming a 3:05 file to 3:00 lowers it from 40 to 30 credits.
  • Cut long silences and intro music before uploading. Only the length of the file counts, not how much is said.

What is a video to text converter?

Video to Text is a tool that turns the speech in a video or audio file into a written transcript. You upload an MP4, MOV, WEBM, MP3, WAV or M4A file up to 10 minutes. The AI writes out every word, splits the text into paragraphs with a timestamp at the start of each, and labels who is speaking when there is more than one voice. You can read it on the result screen or download it as TXT, SRT or VTT.

Example

How to use Video to Text in 3 steps

  1. Upload your video or audio

Sign in and upload the file you want to transcribe: MP4, MOV or WEBM up to 200 MB, or MP3, WAV or M4A, up to 10 minutes long. It needs to have speech in it.

  2. Choose the spoken language

Pick the language people speak in the recording, or leave it on Detect automatically. Choosing it yourself helps with short clips and strong accents.

  3. Transcribe video to text

Press Transcribe. The transcript shows up on the result screen with TXT, SRT and VTT downloads, and it's saved in My Videos.

What Video to Text does

Timestamped paragraphs

The transcript isn't one long block. A new paragraph starts when the speaker changes, after a pause longer than a second and a half, or at the end of a sentence once a paragraph runs long. Each one opens with a timestamp like [2:15], so you can jump to that moment in the recording.

Speaker labels for interviews and podcasts

When two or more people talk, each paragraph starts with Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on, numbered in the order they first speak. A solo recording gets no labels, just clean paragraphs.

SRT and VTT subtitle files

Along with the plain-text transcript, you get SRT and VTT files cut into short lines of two to four words, timed to the speech. Upload them to a video platform as closed captions, or import them into your editor.

Video or audio, 13 languages

Upload a video and the sound is taken out of it first, or upload audio directly. Pick the spoken language from English, Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian or Russian, or let the AI detect it.

Priced by the minute

Transcription costs 10 credits per started minute of the file. A 4-minute voice memo is 40 credits, and a full 10-minute interview is 100. The price is shown before you start.

Comparison

Why use Video to Text instead of typing a transcript by hand?

Transcribing by hand means pausing, rewinding and typing for longer than the recording lasts. Here the AI writes it out and marks who spoke when.

What you can make with it

Show notes from a two-person podcast

You recorded a 9-minute conversation with a guest and need quotes, chapter times and a written version for your website.

  • Upload the episode audio as MP3 or WAV, not the video, if that's the cleaner file.
  • The guest and host come back as Speaker 1 and Speaker 2. Replace the labels with real names in the TXT file.
  • Use the paragraph timestamps as chapter markers in the episode description.
  • Copy two or three strong lines as pull quotes for social posts.

Closed captions for a YouTube upload

Your talking-head video is ready, and you want viewers to be able to switch captions on without adding them to the picture.

  • Transcribe the final export, so the timings match the version people will watch.
  • Download the SRT file and add it as a subtitle track on the video platform.
  • Read the transcript once for names and product terms the AI may have spelled differently.
  • Want captions drawn into the picture instead? Use the AI Caption Generator.

Notes from a recorded lecture or meeting

A 10-minute section of a class or a team call contains the details you need, and scrubbing through the recording is slow.

  • Trim the recording to the part that matters. You pay per started minute.
  • Set the language yourself if the speaker has a strong accent or switches terms often.
  • Search the TXT file for a keyword, then use the timestamp to go back to that moment.
  • For longer recordings, split them into 10-minute parts and transcribe each one.

Who it's for

Podcasters and interviewers

Turn an episode or a street interview into a speaker-labelled transcript for show notes, quotes and blog posts.

YouTubers and video creators

Get SRT and VTT caption files for uploads, and a written script you can turn into a description or a post.

Students and researchers

Transcribe a lecture clip, a recorded interview or a field recording so you can quote and search it.

Teams and small brands

Write up a recorded meeting, a webinar section or a customer video for your brand's notes, help pages or social posts.

Tips for the best result

  • Clear speech gives the best transcript. Loud background music, wind or crowd noise lowers accuracy, so clean up the sound first with the AI Audio Enhancer if it's rough.
  • Speaker labels work best when people take turns. Lots of crosstalk, where two people talk at once, can mix up who said what.
  • Pick the spoken language yourself for clips under a minute; auto-detect has less speech to go on.
  • Proofread names, brand terms and numbers before you publish. The AI writes what it hears, and unusual words are the most likely to be wrong.
  • Transcribe the final cut of a video, not the raw footage, if you need the SRT or VTT to line up with the published version.
  • Only sounds that are speech are written out. Music, laughter and other noises are left out of the transcript.
